Secretory granule exocytosis.
Regulated exocytosis of secretory granules or dense-core granules has been examined in many well-characterized cell types including neurons, neuroendocrine, endocrine, exocrine, and hemopoietic cells and also in other less well-studied cell types. Secretory granule exocytosis occurs through mechanisms with many aspects in common with synaptic vesicle exocytosis and most likely uses the same bas...
متن کاملDense-core secretory granule biogenesis.
The dense-core secretory granule is a key organelle for secretion of hormones and neuropeptides in endocrine cells and neurons, in response to stimulation. Cholesterol and granins are critical for the assembly of these organelles at the trans-Golgi network, and their biogenesis is regulated quantitatively by posttranscriptional and posttranslational mechanisms.
متن کاملThe granin family--its role in sorting and secretory granule formation.
Two types of secretory pathways are present in mammalian cells: constitutive secretion and regulated secretion (1). In the constitutive secretory pathway, which is found in all types of cells, secretory products are packed in small vesicles. Most of the proteoglycans and glycoproteins of the extracellular matrix are secreted in this way. The regulated secretory pathway, found in the more differ...
متن کاملSnapin mediates insulin secretory granule docking, but not trans-SNARE complex formation.
Secretory granule exocytosis is a tightly regulated process requiring granule targeting, tethering, priming, and membrane fusion. At the heart of this process is the SNARE complex, which drives fusion through a coiled-coil zippering effect mediated by the granule v-SNARE protein, VAMP2, and the plasma membrane t-SNAREs, SNAP-25 and syntaxin-1A. Here we demonstrate that in pancreatic β-cells the...
متن کاملElectron Microscopic Evidence Suggesting Secretory Granule Formation within the Golgi Apparatus
Secretory granules have been seen within components of the Golgi bodies of rat pituitary acidophils and mouse pancreatic acinar cells. The fact that secretory granules are much more frequently encountered within Golgi components under conditions of increased secretory activity suggests that granule formation may occur within the Golgi apparatus in these two types of cells.
